  • Changes to the Theory Test

    23 Jan 2012 4:43 pm
From today the driving theory test will no longer use pre-published questions in a move to stop candidates from learning answers by rote.

Until now all the questions used in the driving theory test have been published. These changes will mean that learner drivers and riders gain a better understanding of driving theory, because they can no longer rely on simply learning which options are correct for individual questions.

Road Safety Minister Mike Penning said:

“By bringing a stop to publication of theory test questions we aim to encourage candidates to prepare by learning each topic area thoroughly rather than just memorising the questions and answers.

“The intention is to improve candidates’ knowledge and understanding of driving theory, so that they are more able to retain and apply it when they are on the road.”

The familiar theory test books and software still offer revision questions for candidates to test themselves and assess their progress. They now also have exercises so learners can practice applying their knowledge on each topic to case studies. There are also new sections of revision support for motorcyclists and a free e-book for car drivers.

  • CHANGES TO THE TEST JANUARY 2013 (The third directive)

    3 Nov 2011 5:26 pm
CHANGES TO THE TEST JANUARY 2013 (The third directive)

What does the 3rd Directive change?

The 3rd Directive does not cover provisional entitlements, so the CBT system will still remainin place although there has been some mention of the expiry of the CBT to be cut down to one year. However, the licence categories are to be radically altered. A1 (light motorcycles up to 125cc) will remain. There will be a new category of A2 (medium motorcycles up to 46.6bhp) which is larger than our current Small A category. Category A will remain. The key difference will be the mandatory 2 year gap between categories and the test for each stage. Also, the age for Direct Access will be raised from 21 to 24.

    What are the age gaps?

Currently, if you are 17, you may pass a test for Category A and at 19 you may ride any sizemotorcycle. If you are over 21, you may pass a test and ride any size motorcycle. Under the new system, there will be a mandatory 2 year gap. This means that assuming the 17 years age limit is kept, you may pass an A1 test at 17, pass an A2 test at 19 and pass an A test at 21. If you are over 24, you may pass a test and ride any size motorcycle.

    Is testing compulsory?

Yes and no. There must be a test which complies with the 2nd Directive regime at some stage.

However, the DSA have not yet decided whether it necessary to test at each stage or bring in a minimum number of hours training (incorporating a short test).

  • MODULE 1 CHANGES MAY 16TH!

    1 Apr 2011 6:05 pm
The government is working with the motorcycle industry to review the delivery and content of the motorcycle test. This working group includes DSA, DfT, the motorcycle training industry and motorcycle user groups.

This work (along with DSA's ongoing monitoring and review process of all tests) has identified a number of minor changes that can be quickly introduced before the main review is finished.

The changes will see an introduction of more exercises, a slight change in the way the test is marked and a change in the layout of the course itself.

  • Changes to the Motorcycle Test

    11 Jun 2010 5:38 pm
Plans to introduce “independent riding” to the new Module 2 test are to be implemented as of October this year.

The changes to the test will mean students must display an ability to plan a route to a destination and be able to follow multiple instructions. The way the new “independent riding” (IR) part of the test will be marked is still being discussed but there is growing concern that students will find this exercise confusing and difficult.

  • Limited Test Spaces

    15 Feb 2010 9:43 am
Last summer the DSA ran motorcycle tests 3 days a week from our local test centre in Aylesbury.

They currently are only running these tests 1 day a week. This is making it incresingly difficult to meet the demand we have for the motorcycle test.

We are currently taking bookings into April and soon will be taking bookings for May. As there is limited space we are advising those who wish to take their test this summer to book now.

We accept deposits of £150 to reserve your course.
